The Whitaker Group x New Balance 2010 "For Identity" Pack Comes Frayed on Purpose

The Whitaker Group x New Balance 2010 For Identity U20106KH

The Whitaker Group is on a tear right now, and New Balance is its latest stop. Sneaker News reports the retail group behind A Ma Maniere and APB has a two-pair New Balance 2010 "For Identity" pack lined up for Thursday, November 5 at $155 a pair. EQL launches are already open on TWG retailers' sites, so this one moves fast.

The hook is the stitching. Both pairs carry visible hand-stitched accents with loose threads hanging off the suede, like someone started a repair job and decided they liked it better unfinished. The grey-and-purple pair (U20106KH) pairs open grey mesh that reads like old basketball shorts with tan underlays, dusty purple hairy suede, a black-and-red N and blue ABZORB pods in a cream midsole. The second pair goes softer with cream honeycomb mesh and layered pinks and greys, a black N outlined in orange, and a pinkish outsole. Each comes with multicolor laces matched to its palette.

Our take: the 2010 has had plenty of tidy colorways, and this is the first in a while that looks lived-in straight out of the box. The frayed threads will split the room, since half of you will reach for scissors and the other half will call that the whole point. We're with the second group. The purple pair is the easy winner for winter fits, while the pink one is the louder pick for anyone who already owns too many grey New Balance.
