The Tipping Point x adidas Adistar Control 5 Brings Houston Cactus Flowers on November 7

adidas has apparently decided the best way to sell a retro runner is one latte at a time. The Adistar Control 5's "Slow Drip" series, a run of collabs with coffee shops that double as community hangouts, kicked off with Deadstock Coffee in Portland. Next up, per Sneaker News: Houston's The Tipping Point.

The Houston pair leans into the Texas desert, where it was shot, and into the state's more than 100 species of cactus flower. That means classic green and pink. The pink goes on heavy across the base layer, while textured suede overlays, roughed-up laces and the sole below bring in the green stems. From the back it honestly looks like a prickly pear in bloom, which is exactly the point.

Our take: the Adistar Control 5 was built for loud colorways, and this is one of the louder ones without feeling like a costume. Coffee-shop collabs could easily turn into a gimmick, but when the shoes look this good we'll happily take a few more stops on the tour. Bring your own oat milk.
