Shake James and his Milwaukee shop SNEEX have been on a run with adidas this year, after the Samba "414 Day" and the Forum Low "What The Milwaukee." Now the duo has officially unveiled its next one: the adidas Adistar XLG 2.0 "Wild Rivals" pack, two pairs inspired by the mandrill and the African rock python. Per Sneaker Bar Detroit, both pairs first showed up at ComplexCon and land November 14.
The "Mandrill" pair goes straight for the monkey's face: blue gradient mesh with shaggy red suede overlays and yellow on the chunky XLG sole. The "African Rock Python" is wrapped in yellow and black snakeskin-print mesh, with clear panels at the toe and heel as a nod to a snake shedding its skin. The new campaign shots also show the side cages glowing in the dark, and each pair comes with collectible field cards covering the animal's habitat, diet and behavior. The campaign was shot on the streets of New York City with Angela Simmons.
Our take: the XLG 2.0 is already a big, loud runner, so giving it the most colorful primate on Earth was the obvious move. The python pair is the sleeper, though. Glow-in-the-dark snakeskin is a sentence nobody needed, and somehow it works. Just don't let the field cards convince you to adopt a python.
