Vans Premium Slip-On 98 Goes Speckled Corduroy for November 1

Corduroy season is officially open. Vans is dropping the Vans Premium Classic Slip-On 98 "Corduroy" in Japan on November 1 for ¥13,750, in a deep red and a near-black, as first reported by Fullress.

The base is the Slip-On 98 from the Vans Premium line, the grown-up version of the classic with upgraded materials and a comfier feel. This time the whole upper is corduroy, and it's been hit with a bleached-out speckle that looks like someone flicked white paint at it on purpose. A thin color-matched stripe on the cream foxing tape and a cream liner keep it looking vintage instead of brand new.

Our take: a slip-on in corduroy shouldn't work this well, but it does. It's the sneaker version of your favorite thrifted jacket. The red pair is the one that gets noticed, and the black pair is the one you'll actually wear four days a week with dark denim. Either way, these look made for cold mornings, not boardwalks.

For now this is a Japan release, with pairs listed at Billy's and ABC-MART. A US release hasn't been announced, but the Vans Premium line is sold in the US too, so we'll update this post when we hear more.
