Kevin Durant didn't just pick a shoe for his season opener, he picked a whole state. The Nike KD 19 "Texas" (style JJ5279-100) showed up on his feet as he kicked off his second season in Houston, and it doubles as a love letter to his alma mater in Austin. The best part, per Sneaker News: it's not a one-off PE. It's headed to retail in Spring 2027 for $170 in men's sizes.
The upper is wrapped head to toe in brown cow print, with the areas around the KD 19's lightning-bolt shell kept clean white so the whole thing doesn't turn into a rodeo. Black stitched-style detailing runs across the print like the scrollwork on a pair of cowboy boots, and a gold longhorn-inspired piece sits at the top of the tongue. It's a big swing from the first run of KD 19s, which stayed mostly monochrome with glossy candy-paint finishes, and it follows the graphic turn the line already took with the KD 19 "Halloween."
Our take: cow print on a performance basketball shoe has no business working this well. On a white backdrop it might read as a costume, but on hardwood it looks like exactly what it is, a guy repping where he's from and where he plays. The cowboy-boot linework is the detail that sells it. The only problem is the calendar. Spring 2027 is a long time to stare at a shoe this loud, so expect plenty of people to go hunting for anything brown and white in the meantime. Yeehaw, eventually.
