New Era and Sean Wotherspoon have worked together for the first time. New Era Japan announced a 28-piece collection built around the things Sean is known for: bright mixed-color panels, old-school wash and a love for vintage. It releases in Japan on October 8.
Sean is the Los Angeles collector and designer who started the vintage shop Round Two at 23 and has since put his colors on sneakers, clothes and even cars. Here he brings that thrift-store eye to caps. Many of the hats use his "crazy pattern," where each panel is a different color. Others use washed corduroy, distressed fabric, madras plaid and crochet, so the pieces look like something you found at the bottom of a vintage bin rather than off a new shelf — which is exactly the point.
Team caps are a big part of the drop. The lineup includes the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets and Baltimore Orioles, plus Japan's Yomiuri Giants, with some styles carrying old anniversary patches and denim or corduroy visors. If you already collect New Era for the logos, this is the version that looks like it lived a life before you bought it.

The collection covers the Retro Crown 9FIFTY, 9THIRTY and 9TWENTY caps, a crochet bucket hat, a cap pouch, a cap key holder and a washed long-sleeve tee, plus four kids' 9TWENTY caps. Prices in Japan run from ¥4,180 for the kids' caps to ¥6,600 for the Retro Crown 9FIFTY, the pouch and the tee.
