Forty years after the Weapon hit courts, Converse Japan is not doing a plain GR remaster. TimeLine’s WEAPON J VTG 40TH OX pair hands design supervision to two Japanese vintage shops — Tokyo’s SOMA and Shizuoka’s MAGFORLIA — and builds both colorways as MADE IN JAPAN archive experiments for September 28.

Converse Japan’s official PR (PR Times, September 17) and converse.co.jp PDPs lock the specs. SOMA’s Gold/Black (33702850) mixes glossy gold leather with black suede and prints “Directed by Katsufumi Tokunaga” on the lining. MAGFORLIA’s Black/Gold (33702860) rebuilds toe volume, Y-bar width, and foxing from Takaya Yamada’s own ’86 archive pair, with brown-core leather edges showing through the cut. Both retail at ¥36,300 and ship with TimeLine’s dedicated carton and tag.

Official campaign frames lean vintage-shop, not white-void catalog: Weapons parked on floral wallpaper and yellow vinyl chairs, gold heels on wooden shelves, basketball tees from the ’87 MVP era in the background. Fullress flagged the drop; L1 Japan PDPs now sit as Coming Soon for the 28th across Converse Online Shop and select JP retail including BILLY’S.
