Remember the apron-toe New Balance that walked the COMME des GARÇONS HOMME show in Paris back in January? It's finally real. The COMME des GARÇONS HOMME x New Balance 1890A launches November 6 at select stores worldwide, per Hypebeast Japan, in two colorways: Tan and Black.
The base is the 1890A, the dressed-up spin on New Balance's techy 1890 runner. HOMME leans all the way into that idea with an apron upper that reads more moccasin than marathon, sitting on an ABZORB midsole with ABZORB SBS cushioning in the heel. The HOMME name rides on the tongue badge, both logos share the insole, and each pair comes in a custom collab box.
Our take: this is the shoe for the person who wants to wear sneakers to a dinner reservation and get away with it. The Tan is the one, a sandy suede loafer on a chunky running sole with that little hit of red on the outsole, like your dad's boat shoe signed up for a 5K. The Black is the stealth pick for anyone whose whole closet already looks like a COMME des GARÇONS store. Either way, it's a smart, weird, very HOMME take on a New Balance runner, and we're into it.
In Japan it lands November 6 at COMME des GARÇONS HOMME stockists for ¥64,900 including tax, in whole sizes only. US stores and US pricing haven't been confirmed yet, so we'll update this post when they are.
While you wait, shop the New Balance collection at ONENESS, including the New Balance 1906R in White/Nordic Green and the New Balance ABZORB 2010 in Pink Chalk/Sea Salt, in stock right now.
