Stance just picked up one of the biggest licenses in American sports. Per WWD, the sock brand has signed a multiyear deal with the NFL to make team-branded socks and underwear for all 32 teams.
The collection is being produced by United Legwear & Apparel Co. On the sock side, WWD says to expect lifestyle socks with the technical stuff Stance is known for: compression zones, cushioning and breathable knits. The underwear uses Stance's Butter Blend fabric, Featherseam construction and a Core-Flex waistband. The first preview is a run of solid team-color crews with a single embroidered logo on the shin, Lions, Cowboys, Chiefs, Rams, Packers, Eagles, Bears and Bills among them.
Our take: Stance spent years as the NBA's official on-court sock, so a big league deal isn't new territory, and the NFL feels like the last boss. The early designs are smart, too. One clean color and one small logo is how you get people to wear team socks on a Tuesday and not just on Sunday. We'll admit the team underwear is a bolder idea. Whatever gets you through a fourth-quarter comeback, we guess.
The details: WWD reports the first Stance NFL socks are on sale now on Stance's own site. A bigger sock selection and the underwear are set for the holidays at NFLshop.com, Fanatics, select sports specialty stores, stadium stores and other retailers worldwide. Exact holiday dates and prices weren't shared.
