New Balance 991v2 "Iron/Mulch" Goes Full Fall Neutral for November 1

New Balance isn't done with brown this fall. The 991v2 just picked up an "Iron/Mulch" colorway, and the official images look like someone raked the leaves, kept the good ones and turned them into a runner. It sits in New Balance's "Elevated Neutrals" group, which is the brand's polite way of saying this shoe goes with every jacket you own.

The layering is where it earns the name. Deep chocolate suede covers the midfoot and eyestays, a lighter mulch-toned suede wraps the toe and heel, and black mesh fills the gaps underneath. A silver-grey N and a two-tone grey midsole keep the whole thing from going too dark, so it reads more fall walk than funeral. It's the same second-gen 991 shape people already like, just dressed for October.

Our take: the 991v2 has never needed loud colors to sell, and this one leans into what the shoe does best. At $250 it's not an impulse buy, but it's the kind of pair that looks better after a few months of wear than it does out of the box. Fair warning: you will be told it looks like a dad shoe. Say thank you.
