The Timberland Field Boot has been dressed in just about everything over the years: two-tone leather, contrast nylon, enough color blocking to pass for a flag. HAVEN went the other direction. The Vancouver shop's new take wraps the whole boot in one shade of black hairy suede and lets the texture do the talking. It looks like a boot that has already done the hike and has no interest in telling you about it.
The idea comes from Black Tusk, the jagged volcanic peak in the Coast Mountains a short drive from HAVEN's home base. That dark, brushed, slightly fuzzy suede is meant to echo the rock, and the team took the boot up there for the campaign shoot, which is a lot more commitment than most collabs give a lookbook. Underneath the mood board there's real kit: a GORE-TEX lining for wet days, PrimaLoft insulation for cold ones, a reinforced toe cap for the rocks you didn't see, and a Vibram sole holding it all down.
Our take: tonal suede is the right call. The Field Boot already has plenty of personality in its shape, and going all black turns it from a weekend hiker into something you can wear with a good coat in the city without looking like you're lost on the way to a trailhead. At $230 with GORE-TEX and PrimaLoft, it's priced like a serious winter boot, which is exactly what it is. Just know the hairy suede will collect lint like it's paid to.
