New Balance looked at a sleeping bag and decided it should be a shoe. The brand's new NB Padded Shoes collection, built around the slip-on Sleeping Moc and a strapped Mary Jane version called the Sleeping Jane, drops November 2 through New Balance Korea, according to House of Heat and Fullress. A US or wider international release hasn't been announced yet, so treat stateside availability as TBA for now.
Both shoes share the same idea: puffy horizontal quilting and a rounded toe, like your favorite camping bag got shrunk down to foot size. The Sleeping Moc uses a water-repellent poly-nylon upper with an elastic drawcord and stopper at the collar so you can cinch the fit, plus a lightweight IMEVA sole, per Sneaker Wars. It comes in Black, Gray, a beige pair with a bright yellow lining that peeks out of the opening, and a black pair covered in white polka dots. The Sleeping Jane keeps the padding but adds a hook-and-loop strap across the top, a fleece insole and a flat rubber outsole. Instead of a big side N, there's just a small NB logo on the vamp, so the quilting does all the talking.
Reported Korean pricing is ₩119,000 for the Sleeping Moc, ₩129,000 for the polka-dot Moc and ₩149,000 for the Sleeping Jane, which works out to roughly $85 to $105.
Our take: this is New Balance's answer to the cozy winter slipper-shoe wave, and it's leaning way more fashion than dad. The yellow-lined pair is the sleeper hit (sorry), and the polka-dot Mary Jane is going to be all over the place once the weather turns. If New Balance brings these stateside, expect the lounge-to-coffee-run crowd to clean them out.
