New Balance has spent the last couple of years proving it's not just the 990 company anymore, and the TL900 is one of the louder pieces of evidence. The cupsole hiking-style shoe launched in a synthetic all-olive look, and now, per Sneaker News, it's taking its first step into suede with a new "Army Green" pair (UTL909QQ).
The setup is simple and it works. Clean off-white suede wraps the sides, while a shaggy, almost moss-like olive suede handles the heel cup and the eyestay, so it looks like the shoe already went on a weekend hike and came back better for it. The toe cap and chunky lugged outsole are a dark charcoal, the toggle lace is still there for quick on and off, and a little green pops out under the midfoot. Our take: the first TL900 was a trail shoe that looked like gear, and this one finally looks like something you'd wear to dinner after the trail. Just maybe skip the mud puddles, because that light suede is not going to forgive you.
