Clarks Originals have spent decades being the shoe you wear to look relaxed. Diemme just took three of them hiking. Hypebeast reports that the Italian mountain-boot label and Clarks Originals are releasing a three-piece collection on November 5 for $620 through Diemme, rebuilding the Wallabee, the Desert Boot and the Desert Trek with alpine boot parts.
Diemme makes all three in Italy, and the biggest change is underfoot. Each pair drops its usual sole for Diemme's lug unit, taken from two of the brand's best-known boots, the Roccia Vet and the Cornaro. Hiking D-rings take over the lacing, and a rubber mudguard with a crepe-style texture wraps the bottom edge, a small nod to the crepe soles Clarks is known for. The materials come from the Clarks archive: the Wallabee is in Champagne suede from British tannery Charles F. Stead, the Desert Boot is in Clarks' Cola suede, and the Desert Trek gets the biggest rebuild, now a mid-cut in black full-grain leather.
Our take: the black Desert Trek is the one. It looks like the Trek finally signed up for a gym membership, and the lug sole makes the shape tougher without hiding it. The Champagne Wallabee on a mountain sole is the most fun idea here, as long as you're okay with your nicest suede pair being the one that's built for mud. At $620 these aren't cheap, but Italian-made boots with real Diemme hardware rarely are.
