Nike's winterized Air Force 1 run keeps rolling, and this one skips the color entirely. The Nike Air Force 1 Mid '07 GORE-TEX Vibram "Black" (IO1875-001) is set to release November 5 for $180, according to House of Heat. Nike hasn't posted its own launch page yet, so treat the date as reported for now. We'll update this post if anything changes.
The build is black on black on black: upper, ankle strap, laces and midsole all blacked out, with GORE-TEX branding on the lateral side. The only contrast comes from small yellow Vibram hits. Underneath, the usual AF1 cupsole has been swapped for a more aggressive Vibram tread meant to grip in wet, cold conditions, while the mid-cut shape and strap stay classic.
Our take: the Wheat pair is the one everybody pictures, and the Low "Thunder Blue" brought the color, but this is the one you actually wear through February without thinking about it. Salt stains, slush, mystery puddles at the train stop, it doesn't care. It's basically the AF1 your mom would approve of for once, because it comes with a weatherproof membrane and a lug sole. Black Mid AF1s also have a certain reputation, so maybe keep the GORE-TEX for the weather and the drama out of it.
