The New Balance 1954R has played it fairly safe so far. Not anymore. A "Dazzle Camo" version has turned up at retailers with official style images, JustFreshKicks reports. New Balance hasn't announced a release date or price, so for now it's reported, date TBA.
Dazzle camouflage comes from World War I ships, which were painted in jagged black-and-white stripes to make it hard for enemies to judge their speed and distance. Here it covers nearly every upper panel, with several N logos hidden in the pattern. Black overlays across the top, a black N and a black midsole keep the tech parts readable, so the shoe doesn't completely melt into the print.
The 1954R is New Balance's newest tech runner, a retro mash-up built on a platform that dates back to 2010. Most of its colorways so far have been pretty conventional, which makes this pair a big swing.
Our take: this is the most "look at me" pair the 1954R has had, which is funny for a pattern originally meant to confuse people. Pair it with simple black and let the shoe do the work. Earlier 1954R pairs ran around $190, so expect something close to that, but treat it as a guess until New Balance posts a price.
