ASICS keeps mining the 2010s running aisle, and the GEL-Kinetic Fluent is getting two fresh coats. According to Fullress, the ASICS GEL-Kinetic Fluent "Concrete" (1203A591.029) and "Black Coffee" (1203A591.200) release in Japan on November 12 for ¥22,000, through ASICS' Japanese webstore and shops like BILLY'S, BEAMS and United Arrows. A US release date hasn't been announced yet, so treat stateside timing as TBA. We'll update this post if ASICS confirms one.

Quick refresher on the shoe: the Kinetic Fluent takes cues from archive ASICS runners and rebuilds them with current tech. The headline is the heel, a sculpted, pod-like GEL unit that looks like it was designed to dent your floors, and the upper stitches together design bits from a bunch of 2010s running shoes. Lots of overlays, lots of shine, zero interest in being subtle.

"Concrete" is the safe bet. It's a grey-on-silver build with a metallic sheen, cream mid-panels and a dark grey GEL heel, basically the color of every chrome-and-cement Y2K runner you already like, just louder underneath. "Black Coffee" is the moodier one: black mesh and synthetics with brown and bone tiger stripes, sitting on an olive-tinted heel unit. If the grey pair is for people who want to match everything, the black pair is for people who want their shoes to look expensive in bad weather.

Our take: the Kinetic Fluent is one of the more interesting shapes in ASICS' current lineup because it doesn't try to be a GEL-1130 or a Kayano 14. "Black Coffee" is the pick here. Dark sneakers with that much going on in the sole usually read better in person than on a white background.
