John Elliott just showed his Spring 2027 menswear collection, and the headline isn't a new silhouette. It's the fabric. Speaking to Vogue, the LA designer said that after 15 years of denim, tees, sweats and workwear-meets-military staples, the way to give his customers something new was to go all the way down to the yarn, working in Japan, where his co-founder is based.
What came back is a list that reads like a lab notebook. Pigment-coated ripstop shows up as roomy cargo shorts and a light funnel-neck coat with a bungee waist in a faded tiger camo. There's an oversized shirt-jacket in charcoal-dyed cotton with slightly patinated seams and plenty of pockets, pale plaid shirting in a lumpy silk noil and cotton blend, and a jacket and work shorts in a ridged twill that was coated in rubber, then stone washed until it broke down. The one Elliott was most excited about: "ice-dyed" jeans, made by freezing chemicals and water and letting them melt on the denim, which leaves a blurry, spilled-coffee kind of pattern.
Our take: this is the most John Elliott thing John Elliott could do. From across the room it's cargos, camo and an easy shirt. Up close it's a weird fabric story nobody else is telling. That's exactly why the brand works, and the ice-dyed denim is the piece we'd bet sells through first. The core stuff isn't going anywhere either, with the easy jersey basics and oversized basketball shorts still in the mix for the diehards.
Spring 2027 won't land in stores for a while, so the drop timing is TBA.
