Sapphire, not resin. Casio just put a full blue sapphire crystal bezel on the square — the G-SHOCK MR-G MRG-D5000, first shock-resistant G-SHOCK structure built around sapphire components instead of the usual metal/resin stack.
Per Casio’s October 1 newsroom release, the proprietary MR-G Multi-Guard Structure assembles the bezel and case from multiple sapphire parts without screws that can crack crystal under impact. A sapphire-set screw-lock caseback carries an individual serial for each of the 20 worldwide pieces (one for Japan). Module: Gallium Tough Solar.
Casio also lists two siblings: MRG-B5000SA (facet-cut blue sapphires, Dec 5, 500 pcs, ¥880,000) and full-metal GMW-B5000SB (Nov 7, ¥110,000). The hero MRG-D5000 lands December 1, 2026 at ¥11,000,000 tax-in.
